This year, 4th grade students have been working with Project AIM (Arts Integration Mentorship - http://www.colum.edu/ccap/ccap-programs/aim/index.html) from the Center for Community Arts Partnerships at Columbia College Chicago to explore academic areas through an arts integration process. Ms. Rumsey and Ms. Garcia’s classrooms worked with a photographer in a point of view study through Multiple Angle Portraits. This inquiry helped students to explore empathy and seeing others’ points of view. In Mr. Hollins’ class, students are using the Social Sciences and Dance to explore the ancient empires of Mali and Egypt. They are exploring the customs and culture of these two empires to better understand how people lived during those times. They will also survey the traditional dances of these societies and begin to uncover where meaning and form are imbedded within the movements. They will culminate with exhibits with dance performances to display their understanding of these ancient cultures.
We invite you to take a stroll through Oakton's main hallways to see our amazing portrait photography currently on display.
